After being hacked (I think I was vulnerable because I hadn’t updated WordPress), I was forced to do a little cleanup around ScarTech.net. Part of the cleanup and upgrades include a nice new theme.
I’ll detail the hack in a later post.
Just in case you were wondering how I came up with the name ScarTech …

… now you know.
I just upgraded the scartech.net blog to the latest version of WordPress, and let me tell you it was simple. It literally took me less than 10 minutes to do. That deserves a wow! Now that’s how an upgrade is supposed to go.
Well it looks like the tryptophan is kicking in. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

What’s the best way to promote your blog? Do you just rely on search engine hits or is it ethical to Digg your own blog? If you’re legitimately trying to share your thoughts and expand your readership, I don’t see a problem. I’ve discovered many blogs that I now regularly read by finding them on sites like Digg, Technorati and DZone. The Coding Horrors and Scobalizers out there are easy to find, but I also want to read the stuff from the little guy. That’s why I visit Digg and DZone.
It’s a different story if you’re spamming. If you’re running a splog, you know it. And when you submit links to your splog, you know you’re submitting spam. Plain and simple. It’s sort of like obsenity. I may not be able to define it, but I know it when I see it.
Am I wrong on this?

Why do I take the time to blog? Am I trying to get my 15 minutes of fame? Am I trying to turn a profit? I can find blogs/splogs all day long that try to do both of those things, but you won’t find that here. Although this blog is about what I think, it’s not about me. It’s about technologies that interest me or that I feel compelled to comment on. If I was doing this to become a coding rock star, an MVP, or get a job, I would have given up after just a few posts. I’ve got a long list of topics I plan on investigating (Ruby on Rails, Linux, Java, WPF, …) and commenting on here. I originally started the blog to become a better developer. I think it’s working. In fact, it’s become a little addictive. Almost daily I find myself thinking “I should blog about this or I should blog about that.” So stick around. There’s more to come.
On a side note. Can the word blog be used as a verb?
