Excellent guide. I had one oddity I that might be helpful to some. Following these instructions in Vista obviously you have to use Run as Administrator for these applications. Even using run as admin for usb_prep8 on step 5 the first time I went through the process none of the additional windows like PE2USB or the browse window for option 1 in usb_prep8 opened as described in the guide. I started over and rather than running usb_prep8 from within Windows I opened an administrator command prompt, changed directories to usb_prep8, ran it from there and was able to follow the guide without a problem.

Thanks for taking the time to create this guide. It's been very helpful!

Just one trick from me.

If you try to work with this guide from windows 7.

You should start command prompt with admin rights.

If you don't pe2usb can't find the usb drive and usb_prep script can't continue.

I have followed all the above mentioned steps. I can boot from the USB , then choose to Option 1 for text mode setup. it does load some files and as soon as it says... starting windows, it brings the blue screen of death. I highly suspect that it has a virus.

Does anyone have any idea how i can solve this problem,
Thanx for all the help.

JOHN! Thank you so much for the tip on disabling AHCI MODE! I still don't know what it is, but I found it in BIOS, switched it to SATA and then the Windows set up was able to find my missing hard drive! Thanks!!

DISABLE AHCI MODE IN THE BIOS OF THE COMPUTER ON WHICH YOU ARE INSTALLNIG WINDOWS! Otherwise the Windows install will not see your hard drive. It will only see your flashdrive.

Everything worked fine until step 19 and then I get this:
 Enter your choice: 1

Please give the location to your Windows XP Setup Source Files
'CSCRIPT.EXE //NoLogo u_script\FolderSel.vbs' is not recognized as an internal o
r external command,
operable program or batch file.

Error: The path does not contain Windows XP Source Files

I don't know how to proceed. Any ideas? I have gone by the instructions.
